Mothers Day Delight…
Mothers; we all have them & they all do much more than we realize.
My mother is a wonderful Brazilian woman who inspired a love of cooking in me from an early age. She showed me that food can be a way of sharing love and happiness with those who are special to us (and used to send me to school with extra snacks)!
She is a beautiful lady who’s shoes I still steal whenever I visit her (because I think that they look better on me)! Although we drive each other mad from time to time; there is no one who can understand me the way that she does & no one who prays for me as hard as she has.
Mothers are like cakes, they come in all shapes, flavors & varieties. Some are loud & full of spice, others are quiet (but be careful because ‘still waters run deep’). Some are doing it all on their own (serious respect there), others have large support networks. Some get their way with heavy artillery, others with quiet and careful campaigns of influence. One of my favorite films is ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’. I love the scene where the mother responds to her husband’s ‘I AM THE HEAD OF THE HOUSE’ with a cool reflection that ‘yes but I am the neck & I can turn the head any way I want’!
Regardless of which variety our mothers come in; they deserve our love, respect and admiration every day of the year. Not just on mothers day. It wasn’t until I had children myself that I realized just how darn difficult this parenthood thing is. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on it, your children ‘age up’ & you are back to trying to find your way thorough unknown territory without a map or a compass! Thank goodness that other mothers are there to give us support & perspective (or maybe just the occasional tissue & glass of wine)!
So let’s hear it for all of our mothers! To help make them feel special, I have launched a new range of ‘Mothers Day Cup Cakes’ this month. They come in a box of six and you can check them out in our ‘tasty treats’section.
Usually it is my husband who is tasked with ensuring that I receive decent gifts from our two children. He does complain each year that I am not his mother & did not carry him in my womb for nine months but my campaign of steady hints usually meets with success. So perhaps you can drop some hints of your own & accidentally email this blog post to your children or significant other & who knows….maybe the name on those cupcakes might be your own!
Whatever you are doing make sure you bless someones mother this mothers day. - Andrea xx
